1. The University of Ljubljana (ULJ) is an institution with a very rich tradition. With its more than 56,000 undergraduate and post-graduate students, it ranks among the biggest universities in the world scale. A total of 22 faculties, 3 academies of art and 1 university college employ approx. 3500 teaching and research staff, assisted by nearly 900 technical and administrative staff. The University of Ljubljana was established in 1919 on the foundations of a long- established pedagogical tradition. For almost half a century it remained the only Slovenian university until it was joined, about 20 years ago, by the University of Maribor and, last year, by the University of Primorska on the coast of Slovenia. Laboratory involve3d that cooperates on this project - Laboratory of Microsensor Structures (LMS) is involved in research and development of silicon devices, sensors and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). Internal properties and external characteristics of semiconductor devices are studied using analytical and computer modeling. Semiconductor process technology available in LMS allows investigations of basic semiconductor processes (mask design and fabrication, photolithography, diffusion, depositions, cleaning, etching, micromachining etc.) and development of active and passive discrete semiconductor devices (photosensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, radiation sensors, sensors for nuclear physics, 3D structures etc.). Technological research is supported by measurement equipment and characterization techniques, aided by process and device modeling. LMS offers complete research and development services in the field of silicon semiconductor devices and MEMS, from theoretical analysis to development of test structures and devices, their characterization and optimization. Partial R&D services are also available such as modeling (process & device simulation), characterization (various measurements and testing), single semiconductor processing steps development (lithography, diffusion, metalization, depositions, micromachining etc.) and similar. LMS is open for any kind of cooperation with other laboratories and industry.

2. Fontys University of Professional Education (FON): Dr. Piet Kommers is lector at the Fontys University of Professional Education in particular its teacher training department at Sittard. At Fontys, it is possible to follow almost all higher professional education programs at bachelor's and master's level available anywhere in the Netherlands. Fontys offers programs in Health Care and Social Work, Economics, Business and Communication, Applied Science and Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, Logistics and Transport, and Education. Programs in numerous locations all over the Netherlands. All programs are focused on professional practice in a modern society. This focus is expressed through practical lessons, practice placements, also abroad, and the use of modern information and communications technology in education. Teaching is provided at Fontys in small groups, which guarantees close contacts with your lecturers who can better be described as counselors. At Fontys, the student always occupies a central position.

In addition to offering regular higher professional education for students at bachelor's and master's level, Fontys is actively involved in post graduate studies and contract activities. In every field of knowledge and professional activity at Fontys, tailor made training and courses are provided for individuals, companies, institutions and government bodies. The range of tasks includes also research, consultancy and advice activities, all provided by various business units. Education at Fontys is placed in an international context, Fontys programs are to be recognized as programs of higher education with international professional perspectives. Student and staff mobility is actively stimulated, as well as internationalisation of the curricula and internationalization at home. International transparency is provided through ECTS. Fontys participates in different international consortia and Fontys is active in international contract activities. A growing number of programs is offered in English or in German, open for foreign students.

Besides his Lectorship at Fontys he is also Associate Professor at the University of Twente. His research field is the design and application of media in learning situations. His courses are Multimedia Design, Virtual Reality and Societal Effects of ICT. Concept mapping and metaphoric design stages play an important role here. Projects are undertaken in the field of multicultural communication. The learning processes at individual and societal levels manifest in terms of existential expressions and awareness. Media play an ever more important role in it. Conceptual representations for meta-cognitive awareness become a default language for identity and road maps for changing oneself. The high saturation of communication infrastructure offers the opportunity to participate in learning communities. Sharing experience and finding the right sparring partners for exploring alternative approaches in one's job and continuous learning becomes realistic and offers a more dynamic personal development. Schools, Professional Training and Human Resource Management face the challenge to include and build upon personal growth and attitudes. The priority in learning is not restricted to the access and assimilation of knowledge and skills. Finding ways to convey one's own further learning is priority number one. The WWW, adjacent to the face-to-face communication, is a valuable support facility. The art of designing WWW-based facilities and procedures is keen on both the nature and culture of the human mind. We may expect that education in the new era will have less and less to do with the transfer of knowledge on the shelf; the key issue is to facilitate the new learning modalities of the younger generation. We can hardly fall back on proven methodologies if it comes to media design`. In a certain way it is a self-organizing process where prior goals undergo evolution continuously. As new media appear daily, it is vital that those who are responsible for learning, communication and cooperation are willing to play with its potential; they will soon discover that a sense of pragmatism helps to attain the higher missions as well. Besides more than 60 reviewed scientific journal articles his recently-edited books are:
Cognitive Support for Learning; Imagining the Unknown. Edited by: P.A.M. Kommers. 2004. IOS Press, Amsterdam 2004. ISBN 1-58603-421-9.
